As well as vegetables, Terre d’école also cultivates academic learning, ancestral knowledge and environmental understanding. In the heart of the Congo, this programme aims to help children succeed at school, while also raising awareness about environmental challenges.

Terre d’école is a school surrounded by fields. Overseen by Maria Maylon, President of the International Committee for the Revival of Africa, the project seeks to engage children and young people with academic and professional success through greater awareness of the environmental challenges our planet is facing.

Designed in partnerships with international institutions, universities and experts, the programme invites children – primary to 18 years old – to combine environment awareness, greater understanding of local food production and classic academic learning.

Growing plants and connections between generations

The children grow plants using the ancestral know-how their parents and grandparents used to protect the land and the environment, reinforcing links between generations and contributing to greater food autonomy.

The first sustainable terre d’école school is being built to the north of Brazzaville and will open its doors in 2022. The team then hope to replicate the concept across the Congo and in other African countries.
