Proper Strand Lopers
Support this projectProper Strand Lopers is a Belgian citizen’s initiative born from a Facebook group. Education and awareness-raising about beach waste is central to this.
A few citizens decided to create a Facebook group to post photos of individual or collective cleanups and encourage others to do the same.
The group now has 6800 members, including more than 400 very active volunteers who collect waste from Belgian beaches every day. And membership continues to grow.
The volunteers of Proper Strand Lopers have decided to create an association and to develop within a professional framework. The objective is to participate in networking, to set up awareness-raising projects, and to make the link with local actors. Proper Strand Lopers has thus developed charters with municipalities and organized partnerships with merchants and tourist organizations to reduce litter on the beach.
Proper Strand Lopers covers the entire Belgian coast and impacts its residents, tourists and school groups. The association now needs financial stability in order to develop further.
