L’Ecole des Pôles (The School of Poles) embarks young people to give them tools for the ecological transition. Welcome aboard beautiful three masted sailing ships to raise awareness of the climate emergency!
The foundation Le Français, témoin des pôles (witness of the poles) has decided to take students out of the classroom to discover the beauty and fragility of the poles and to make them aware of climate change. L’Ecole des Pôles organizes awareness-raising workshops on board exceptional boats: three-masted sailing ships.
These interactive workshops provide students with keys to understanding and tools for the ecological transition. They are based on scientific experiments, games, photos and videos, debates, a polar mental fresco…
For the pedagogical team, the climate emergency requires changes in behavior and the program integrates activities on the development of concrete actions, an accompaniment of the young people in individual and group ecological challenges, so they become actors of change.
Onboard workshops
Onboard workshops are offered to students during the stopovers. Free of charge, they are aimed in priority at people in disadvantaged situations.
Present on the West coast of France (Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Saint-Malo, Le Havre, Saint-Brieuc…), the school is expanding inland (Paris, Rouen, Perpignan, Chambéry…).
On land, the team co-constructs projects with schools: surveys conducted by students, events, presentations by specialists in the polar regions and the climate, ecological challenges.
In a year, L’Ecole des Pôles has made more than 7,000 young people aware of the ecological transition. More than 40% of the classes hosted on board are in disadvantaged situations. By 2024, the school plans to educate 10,000 young people per year. In order to allow this free and inclusive access to knowledge, l’Ecole des Pôles is continuously looking for sponsors.
