Although the concept of zero-waste is taking root in India, it still requires a lot of awareness building to gain traction. Set up by eco-entrepreneur Sahar Mansoor, Bare Necessities sells zero-waste personal care and home products, as well as providing learning services (Bare Learning) as part of a holistic approach.

The online classes, conferences and workshops are adapted to the Indian context and break down sustainable living concepts into more easily understandable pieces. The company also works with a strong network of local partners from the fields of corporate sustainability, sustainable fashion, sustainable entrepreneurship, wind energy, and solar energy to share knowledge within homes, communities, companies, and organisations.

Creating momentum

In just 18 months, the online courses have gathered a growing community of 1,500+ students –including aspiring changemakers who want to be part of the solution but don’t know how and those seeking knowledge to start raising awareness themselves.

In total, over the last five years, Bare Learning has directly engaged with more than 200,000 people through its online and offline education initiatives. Many companies have also turned to Bare Learning to empower their employees with the knowledge and skills they need to incorporate sustainable practices on a large scale within their organisation.

Sahar Mansoor hopes that her learning platform and events will be deployed more widely to become the Sustainability & Climate Change School of the Future.
