Biomima is a cultural and environmental association supporting the reconnection between the botanic world and urban people.
By developing transversal projects blending art and nature to tackle air quality issues and carbon emissions, Biomima seeks to be an innovation hub for a green transition.
To that end, Biomima created the Bionic Festival, a carbon negative event. Because plants absorb carbon but also produce antioxidants boosting our immune system, the festival decided to unite artists and trees on stage.
Plants are put in mobile pots and are integrated in dancers’ choreographies, creating a new poetic channel of expression. This staging seeks to represent our roots and reconnect with the indigenous belief that earth life is sacred.
Plants are then donated to neighbouring communities and urban gardens to sustain carbon absorption and a circular economy. So far, the replanted trees have helped absorb more than 500 tons of CO2 in Madrid and Lisbon.
Biomima also organises plant based educational workshops to raise awareness on the bond between human and nature, and collaborated on several arts events performing with plants.
Biomima backs UNESCO Green Citizens projects demonstrating the potential of local-led change.
