On 21st September, we had the pleasure of meeting the UNESCO Green Citizen Thaiane Maciel, president of the Brazilian project Canal Novo Mundo!
This summer, Thaiane was travelling across Europe to accept various awards, and to collaborate with like-minded environmental initiatives. She took the opportunity to travel to Paris and pay us a visit at the UNESCO headquarters! Here, she did a tour around the renowned building, learning about the organisation’s history and seeing where some major environmental issues have been discussed.
Canal Novo Mundo is an inspiring NGO which aims to produce educational social media content in a fun and accessible way, as well as raising awareness about clean-up actions in Rio de Janeiro’s beaches and public spaces. Since its founding in 2015, the inspiring NGO has already encouraged over 1500 volunteers to get involved in 250 cleaning actions and collected 130 tons of waste! However, to increase their impact, they need more local involvement.
